Integrated platform 2: Enabling conditions This platform will strengthen systems that support research in anticipation of and during pandemics, such as those that support ethics, legal frameworks and data governance. It will also address the economic and social costs associated with pandemics and how to best mitigate the risks posed by underresourced and ill-equipped institutions, communities and systems. Strong national and regional technology platforms and systems will reduce our reliance on the Global North for scientific solutions and their translation to population benefit. Specific action items: Scoping study to map research, capacity and expertise in South Africa through questionnaires and workshops. Identify priority research areas linked to the national One Health strategic plan. Map existing funding structures to support research. Integrated platform 1: Crosscutting technologies and solutions This platform will develop research-enhancing tools that can be applied during, after and between pandemics.
