SUMMARY:Africas Pulse: Transforming Education for inclusive Growth
DESCRIPTION:Dear Valued Stakeholder\, \nThe World Bank and Future Africa at the University of Pretoria are delighted to invite you to attend the launch of the 30th edition of Africa’s Pulse\, a biannual survey of issues shaping Africa’s economic future. As economic activity in Sub-Saharan Africa slowly rebounds\, what will it take to better educate millions of students and prepare them for good jobs when they exit school? The education sector will need to absorb about 170 million additional children and adolescents to achieve universal education in Sub-Saharan Africa by 2030\, which will require building 9 million new classrooms and hiring 11 million more teachers. Beyond financing\, policymakers must focus more than ever on improving learning outcomes through foundational skills and equipping youth with skills that are relevant in today’s fast-changing economy. \nPlease join moderator Nozipho Tshabalala for an in-person conversation with the World Bank’s Chief Economist for Africa\, Andrew Dabalen to discuss the urgency of transforming education for inclusive growth. They will be joined by a panel of key stakeholders in education from across the continent\, namely Prof. Loretta Feris\, Vice Principal of the University of Pretoria; Eric Asomani Asante\, award-winning ICT school teacher from Ghana and a finalist for the Global Teacher Award 2023; Reine Mbang Essobmadje\, Vice-President of GICAM (Cameroonian Business Council)\, co-founder of Digital Coalition and CEO of Evolving Consulting. The event will also be addressed by Satu Kahkonen\, World Bank Country Director for South Africa. Questions will be taken from the floor as well as an online audience during the event on World Bank Live. \nDate: Tuesday\, October 15th\, 2024\nTime: 15:00 to 16:30. Registration begins at 14:30. Networking session with refreshments will follow.\nVenue: Future Africa Campus\, University of Pretoria\, South St\, Koedoespoort 456-Jr\, Pretoria\, 0186 \nTo attend in person\, please RSVP using this form by October 10\, 2024.\nEnquiries may be sent to Juby Govender at Juby.govender@futureafrica.science
