The goal is to connect African scholars and their institutions working in Marine Sciences.
Project Leaders
Ocean Sciences in Africa could benefit from extensive research and development initiatives, yet these are scattered, mostly regionally, and insufficient to the task.
FAMS is designed to help address this challenge by supporting existing networks and providing an overarching framework for communication and action within the African marine science community. The initiative was launched in July 2016 with the Mauritius Declaration on Ocean Sciences and was announced internationally at the "2016 Our Ocean" conference in Washington, D.C., a global event hosted by U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry.
