AFRICAN WOMEN | MONEY LEADERS
African women remain the backbone of our economies as farmers, traders, scientists, entrepreneurs, and leaders in many other sectors. Africans hold themselves and their leaders accountable for delivering on gender equality and commitments to women’s empowerment. This is the message from Moussa Faki Mahamat, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission.
WORLD NATURE CONSERVATION DAY | TAKING STOCK OF CAMEROON’S FORESTS
One of the primary goals behind World Nature Conservation Day – celebrated annually on the 28 July – is to save plants, microorganisms and animals that face the threat of extinction. This is done by making scientists and the public aware of the problems and possible solutions to stop the process of extinction.
WORLD BRAIN DAY 2022
World Brain Day 2022 is dedicated to the theme “Brain Health for all”. Research Fellow Dr Joseph Nelson Siewe Fodjo is a medical doctor and research officer at the Brain Research Africa Initiative (BRAIN) in Yaoundé, Cameroon. Currently he is participating in the Future Africa Leader Fellowship Programme (FAR-LeaF), at the University of Pretoria.
Nurturing STEM education in youth through robotics
Future Africa recently hosted a group of vibrant and enthusiastic young budding scientists to pilot a Robotics and Coding Course on the 30th of July, 2022. This is part of the ‘Youth in STEM Programme’ aimed at exposing school learners to practical and theoretical science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) activities to encourage them to follow STEM careers in future. The course gives learners basic knowledge and understanding in robotics and coding whilst promoting skills such as critical thinking and problem-solving.
WORLD YOUTH SKILLS DAY REVISITED
The challenges facing young people worldwide regarding employment and entrepreneurship are especially severe – traditionally even more so in Africa. The numbers of youth Not in Employment, Education and Training (NEET) has been climbing steadily since 2017. Globally, one in five young people are NEET. Three out of four of young NEETs are women.
SRI2022 – An African point of view to address wicked challenges
The world’s largest transdisciplinary gathering for the global sustainability community is currently being held at the University of Pretoria’s Future Africa Institute and Campus. The Sustainability, Research and Innovation Congress (SRI2022) unites more than 2 000 global research leaders, government and civil society experts, funders, and innovators to inspire action and promote sustainability transformation.
