UP’s Prof Cheikh Mbow features in Netflix documentary

Professor Cheikh Mbow, Director of the Future Africa Institute at the University of Pretoria (UP), has been featured in the Netflix documentary Breaking Boundaries. The film, which is narrated by Sir David Attenborough, explores the extent of Earth’s degradation.
“It was a privilege to be one of the scientists selected to feature in this global documentary,” Prof Mbow said. “This film is both specialised and easy to understand, as the iconoclastic science behind planetary boundaries is simply explained to socialise new ideas related to environmental sustainability.”

The postgraduate residence at Future Africa offers accommodation for post-doctoral fellows, PhD and master's students, research, as well as visiting scholars of Future Africa. The residence offers bachelor apartments, communal kitchens, and dining spaces, as well as a fully equipped laundry. The rooms have an open space design, each room equipped with a study area and an en-suite bathroom (shower).

SRI2022 to take place June 20-24, 2022

The Sustainability Research and Innovation Congress 2022 (SRI2022) will take place from June 20-24, 2022, in Pretoria, South Africa and online. Hosted by the Future Africa Institute at the University of Pretoria, SRI2022 will build on the success of the first SRI Congress which took place in June this year and featured 700 speakers and 2,000 participants from 100 countries. A joint initiative of Future Earth and the Belmont Forum, SRI is an emerging global platform of advocacy for sustainability scholarship and innovation, trans-disciplinary and cross-sectoral collaboration, and knowledge to action.
