Work and Research

I obtained my PhD in Economics with a focus on environmental economics in 2020. My main areas of expertise include the use of computable general equilibrium and econometric models for practical policy research, which are scarce skills in the South African (and even African) labour market. Given the focus of my PhD, over the last couple of years, my research focus has been particularly in the fields of energy and environmental economics. However, having held a Research Position Assistant position at the School of Public Management and Administration between 2016 and 2021, and now working as a Research Specialist at the Dean's Office in the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences at the University of Pretoria under Prof Margaret Chitiga-Mabugu, has expanded my exposure to different areas of research including youth unemployment, and labour market analysis. I have published my research in peer-reviewed journals and I am involved in key contract projects including 1) the development of a Gauteng Micro Computable General Equilibrium Model (with Heinrich Bohlmann, Jan van Heerden, Margaret Chitiga-Mabugu, Mark Horridge and Louise Roos), a project for Gauteng Department of Economic Development via UP Department of Research and Innovation; 2) analysing the Just Greening of the South African Economy in a Post-Covid Era (with Heinrich Bohlmann, Margaret Chitiga-Mabugu and Roula Inglesi-Lotz); project for GIZ via UP Department of Research and Innovation; and 3) Road Funding Models, and the Impact of Environmental Taxes and Alternative Fuels, project for SANRAL via Enterprises UP. All these projects have the potential to impact real policy-making and will result in more publications in peer-reviewed journals.
