Dr Elizabeth Mkandawire

Work and Research
My research interests are in the areas of gender, food security and nutrition policy. The gender lens I work from places particular emphasis on the role of men in gender equality. Tackling two cross-cutting issues makes the research I work on particularly relevant in a world that is driving towards a transdisciplinary systems (especially food systems) approach. My research has informed policies in sub-Saharan Africa. In particular, my work in Malawi was used to inform and develop Malawi's national nutrition policy and strategy. I have also used my work to develop a manual, in the form of an animated series, for integrating gender in nutrition policy.
