Work and Research

I worked as a researcher at the Centre for Health Systems Research and Development from 1997 to 2007 and acting director of the Centre from 2007 to 2009. During this time, I participated in several national and international donor funded research projects which resulted in more than 30 research and technical reports. Fundraising and research management were continuous activities I was tasked with. During the two years working as acting director of the Centre, I developed valuable skills in managing staff and budgets. Although working full-time on externally funded research projects, I managed to publish 12 accredited and 5 non-refereed articles.

My vision for the future of research at UP and how I will contribute to this development

UP is known for its research standing and it is a privilege to be associated with the institution. UP policies are clear about the establishment's drive towards recognition as a research intensive university, both locally and internationally. Its strategic vision further states that the university aims to be relevant in finding solutions to the challenges which South Africa face. While we train the youth of the country and extend services toward community upliftment, research at UP should be an equally important endeavor to solve problems in South Africa.
