Work and Research
The focus of my research falls within the area of International Humanitarian Law i.e. the law of armed conflict. My current research is focused on collective responsibility for acts of sexual violence during non-international armed conflicts (NIACs).
The law of NIACs provides for individual responsibility and command responsibility, not the collective responsibility of organised-armed groups. My research aims to identify existing legal norms which could inform a legal framework for collective responsibility for acts of conflict-related sexual violence. This calls for the identification of legal norms that prohibit conflict-related sexual violence under the law of non-international armed conflicts while looking at different theories concerned with binding organised armed groups under IHL
