Work and Research

Neglected tropical diseases (amongst which are onchocerciasis and lymphatic filariasis) blight the lives of a billion people worldwide and threaten the health of millions more. Human onchocerciasis is a highly debilitating disease and the second leading infectious cause of blindness globally after trachoma. I am interested in the discovery and development of drugs and control tools against neglected tropical diseases with a focus on onchocerciasis. Various approaches used include de novo (from natural products), drug re-purposing and understanding the mode of action of drugs that target ion channels.

Fields Of Expertise

Cultures, monoclonal antibodies, electrophysiology technique to study flow of ions
screening of blood for transfusion, safety of antiretroviral drugs
