Work and Research

Since 2007 I have been working in the field of Theory of Stochastic Partial Differential equations which is at the interface of Probability theory (or Stochastic Analysis) and Mathematical Analysis (or Theory of Partial Differential Equations). My work has been motivated by questions stemming from Physics in particular theory of turbulence. I have been very active in the fields of SPDEs and its applications and authored 23 research articles with my collaborators. I made substantial contribution to my field of research, among others I have conducted systematic studies of SPDEs driven by Levy and Wiener noise which model the dynamics of turbulent hydrodynamical systems.

My vision for the future of research at UP and how I will contribute to this development

The development of scientific research in Africa is quite slow because of many factors. In particular, scientific researches in Africa suffer from isolation at many levels (geographical isolation of top international research centres, geographical isolation of institutions within the continent, academic isolation of individuals in their research field, just to cite a few examples). In recent years it seems that UP has made a lot of efforts in unlocking such problem and one has to appreciate these efforts. However, more need to be done as many researchers still feel abandoned or isolated. Individuals need also to substantially contribute to the development of scientific research at the university and in the African continent: application of research funding, training of young researchers, elaborating local and international collaborative projects, establishing international contacts in view of widening the university research networks.
