I worked on a sugarcane improvement project as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the South African Sugarcane Research Institute. I was in charge of the intellectual responsibility, the conception and strategic decisions required in the pursuit of the project, and the communication of results. I was very instrumental in developing an in vitro mutagenesis protocol and implementing it to generate sugarcane epigenetic mutants with improved physiological response to drought and temperature, the two major abiotic stress factors that reduce crop productivity and weaken global food security.
