The global prevalence of diabetes mellitus is increasing at an alarming rate and all efforts to get cure prove abortive. Options available for the management of this disease include lifestyle changes and usage of oral antidiabetic agents. However, these antidiabetic agents are expensive and bedeviled with several adverse effects ranging from hypoglycemia, liver disorder and coma. Therefore there is the need for alternative antidiabetic drugs from natural sources in Africa. My research is dedicated to the discovery of safer, cheaper and more effective antidiabetic drugs from medicinal plants and foods.
