Work and Research
Glycosaminoglycans as potential candidates for antimalarials. I focus on determining low anticoagulant sulfated polysaccharide which inhibit intracellular malaria parasites. The aim is to discover more of these molecules that show potential in overcoming drug resistance in plasmodium parasites.
The pathway of these compounds is on intracellular stage not blood stage. Hence their mode of action can not be affected by parasites genetic mutations.
The research is aimed to incorporate bioinformatics in screening database for potential compounds. The compounds that show high proximity binding to plasmodium falciparum merozoite surface proteins are to be validated by molecular assays on cultured drug resistant parasites.
