Future Africa Research Leadership Fellowship
The Future Africa Research Leadership Fellowship (FAR-LeaF) is an early career research fellowship program focussed on developing transdisciplinary research and leadership skills. In particular, the programme seeks to build a network of emerging African scientists who have the skills to apply transdisciplinary approaches and to collaborate to address complex challenges in the human well-being and environment nexus in Africa.

Africa Science Leadership Programme
The ASLP programme creates a lasting network of science leaders on the continent, spanning not only across countries, but also across disciplinary boundaries. It develops and awareness and curriculum for leadership development in academia that can be applied in other institutions in Africa and beyond and will create a focal point for connection with science leadership training programmes in other parts of the world. The ASLP was launched in 2015 in collaboration with the Global Young Academy and various African Young Academies and with funding from the Bosch Foundation. It is an example of the types of programmes that Future Africa will develop.

Tuks Young Research Leader Programme
As an extension of the ASLP programme, the university based TYRLP was developed. The inaugural round of this programme was launched at the University of Pretoria at the end of 2015 with a second round in October 2016. The programme aims to grow early career academics at UP in the areas of thought leadership, team development, engagement and collaboration, with the intention of enabling them to solve the complex issues that face society. A further aim is to form a community within the University of the like-minded young researchers who possess qualities that will contribute to UP becoming and leading as a research intensive University, in line with the projected UP 2025 vision.

Early Career Research Leader Fellowship
The Early Career Research Leader Fellowship is an initiative of the University of Pretoria’s Future Africa Institute, funded by Carnegie Corporation of New York. It serves early career research leaders in basic and applied sciences, engineering, social sciences, the humanities and the arts. It aims to grow African academics in their thought leadership, team development, stakeholder engagement, and collaboration with an intention to stimulate the emergence of centers of research excellence to solve complex problems that face Africa and the world.
