Africa Science Leadership Programme 2015
Twenty outstanding scientists from all major regions in Africa participated in the inaugural Africa Science Leadership Programme (ASLP). The scientists represent basic and applied sciences, and span a wide variety of disciplines including the social sciences and humanities.
The programme started on 7 June with a week-long workshop on 'Leading a new paradigm for African Science'. The fellows explored topics such as collective leadership, science communication, creative and strategic thinking, management of complex projects and more. The fellows also engaged with leaders in academia, science communication and society to explore challenges and possible solutions to African Science, initiating projects to address them. The fellows now continue with a year of application and mentorship, with a follow-up workshop planned for April 2016.
