The event is being hosted by the Future Africa Institute at the University of Pretoria, in partnership with stakeholders from the government and the Charlotte Mannya-Maxeke Institute.
Amidst the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, the potential of African countries continues to be a light that can build a brighter future. A key part of this is the compelling policies created by the African Union (AU), including Agenda 2063, and the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, aimed at hastening the economic empowerment of women in African economies. Several studies have noted that the continent needs to extend the participation of women in their economies to achieve the desired goals of gender parity in this decade. The focus of this dialogue is to discuss how to close the gender equity gap in this decade.
The event also draws inspiration from the commitment by the AU to accelerate the vision of an integrated Africa, and the achievement of Agenda 2063 Goals Priority Programmes on the Integration Agenda highlighting a deepening unity of our continent and advancing inclusive economic and sustainable development.
