Future Africa Convenes Final Workshop to Develop Strategic Frameworks for Future Earth Africa Hub

Future Africa, the University of Pretoria’s (UP) pan-African platform for collaborative research, recently hosted the final workshop of the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) working group tasked with developing the Theory of Change and MEL framework for the Future Earth Africa Hub Leadership Centre (FEAHLC). This milestone marks the culmination of a six-month process aimed at strengthening the strategic direction and impact of the Future Earth Africa Hub.

Established in October 2024, the MEL working group was formed through a rigorous nomination process, with members endorsed by the FEAHLC Steering Committee. The group comprised three representatives from the core team—including project co-hosts from Future Africa and Rhodes University—alongside three representatives from the regional nodes in Kenya, Ghana, and Malawi, and two external experts. This broad representation was key to shaping a robust and inclusive framework.

The group’s work was guided by comprehensive Terms of Reference (ToR), ensuring a structured and impactful approach to advancing scientific research and collaboration across Africa.

The Future Earth Africa Hub Leadership Centre Secretariat, in collaboration with staff from the National Research Foundation (NRF) and Future Africa, provided management and coordination support to the working group. Their leadership was instrumental in driving the process forward efficiently and effectively.

Speaking at the workshop, Professor Wanda Markotter, the Acting Director of Future Africa, reaffirmed Future Africa’s continued commitment to supporting the Future Earth Africa Hub by providing strategic resources and expertise.

The success of these workshops underscores Future Africa’s dedication to advancing transformative research and facilitating impactful collaborations that drive sustainable solutions for Africa’s most pressing challenges.
