INVITATION Webinar Future Africa Post-COVID-19, Friday 29 May 2020 at 1:00PM

May is Africa Month and 25 May is Africa Day. As a university that aspires to be a leading institution in our country and our continent, internationally recognised and connected, we celebrate our Africanness. We take pride in that we can make a contribution to the creation of knowledge that matters, to solving complex issues and creating the Africa we want – prosperous and democratic, where all citizens enjoy their full human rights, including good health, and use natural resources sustainably.

The University of Pretoria’s Future Africa institute aims to bring together global researchers, networks of scientists, and partners from many disciplines and sectors of the broader community to work on transformative research projects that will seek to resolve some of Africa’s complex problems, thereby contributing to Africa’s sustainable development.

The COVID-19 pandemic has had detrimental effects on societies across the globe and our continent. While there are challenges in some areas, it is encouraging to note that African universities are putting their research skills to good use in the fight against COVID-19. Universities across the continent are committing their research and innovation interests into all aspects of managing the pandemic, from creating masks to developing hand sanitisers to working on developing vaccines and protocols. COVID-19 is indeed giving African universities a chance to open up their intellectual property and join the world in trying to fight the pandemic through research.

You are invited to join University of Pretoria Vice-Chancellor and Principal Professor Tawana Kupe as he hosts a webinar on Friday, 29 May 2020 at 1:00PM to discuss what the future holds for our continent following the COVID-19 pandemic.
