Caroline Ngugi is a Senior lecturer and Chairman, Department of Medical Microbiology at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and technology. Her background is in medical microbiology and molecular epidemiology. Her career in science started by graduating with BSc in Medical Microbiology, magna cum laude, an MSc in Molecular Medicine and a PhD in Epidemiology from JKUAT with a research placement at the Institute of Applied Tumor Biology, Heidelberg University. Ngugi is a founder member of the Kenya National Young Academy of Sciences, an affiliate of the African academy of Sciences and a fellow of the African Science Leadership Program. Her research interests are in early detection and diagnosis of cervical cancer as well as studying mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance in microbes
