Research focus: Ethnopharmacology, Complementary & Alternative Medicine, ethnobotany, Botany & pharmacognosy I am researcher, academician and entrepreneur. I obtained my doctorate from the Fraunhofer Institute for Cell Therapy & Immunology in Leipzig, Germany, the Institute for Virology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Leipzig and Makerere University, Kampala on a split site model, where he investigated the anti-HIV-1, immunomodulatory activity and cytotoxicity of medicinal plants used by herbalists for treating people living with HIV/AIDS in Uganda. I am a lecturer at the Department of Plant Sciences, Microbiology & Biotechnology at Makerere University. I am fellow of Global Young Academy (GYA), 2023-2028, fellow of the Carnegie Corporation of New York (CCNY) at the American Studies Association (ASA), fellow of the Uganda Academy of Sciences & member of the Young East African Research Scientists’ Forum (YEARS’ Forum)as a mentor. I am the vice president of the Uganda Textbook Academic & Non-Fiction Writers Association (UTANA), & the vice president Natural Products Network for Eastern & Central Africa (NAPRECA) Uganda Chapter. I am a member of the PlosOne Editorial Board where I serve as Academic Editor. I am also a reviews editor for Frontiers in Pharmacology – Ethnopharmacology. I am passionate about research and have published over 60 papers, and book chapters in international peer reviewed journals, and am currently working on a couple of book projects. I am member of several professional bodies and such as the Society for Medicinal Plant and Natural Product Research, the International Society for Ethnopharmacology & the International Society of Ethnopharmacology among others. I am a scientific committee member of the African Phytomedicine Scientific Society, a member of the Activities Funding Review committee, Global Health & Fundamental Research working groups of the GYA, & the Elsevier Advisory Panel.
