The global prevalence of diabetes mellitus is continuously increasing at an alarming rate and all efforts to get cure prove abortive. As such, diabetic patients need to manage the ailment for long duration and sometimes for the rest of their lives. Therefore, options available for the management of this disease include lifestyle changes and usage of oral antidiabetic agents. However, these antidiabetic agents are bedevilled with several adverse effects ranging from hypoglycemia, liver disorder and coma. Therefore there is a need for alternative antidiabetic drugs from natural sources – medicinal plants and foods. My research is dedicated to the possible characterization of antidiabetic actions of medicinal plants and foods.
