Bio

Dr Matilda NM Azong Cho is a postdoctoral fellow at the ARUA Centre of Excellence in Sustainable Food Systems (ARUA-SFS) at Future Africa, University of Pretoria, and the Centre for Environmental Studies (CFES), also at the University of Pretoria. Her extensive research background spans multiple disciplines, including gender studies, the application of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), participatory GIS in natural resources management, as well as vulnerability and adaptation to environmental changes. In 2019, Matilda earned her PhD in Environmental Management from the Department of Geography, Environmental Management, and Energy Studies at the University of Johannesburg. She also holds an MA in Planning and Coordination in Natural Resources Management from the International Institute of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC), The Netherlands. Additionally, she has a BA degree in Gender Studies from the University of Buea, Cameroon. Before attaining her PhD, Matilda made substantial contributions to environmental management in the private sector as an Environmental Manager at Enkanyini Consultants, where she dedicated 12 years of service. Matilda’s research interests encompass environmental planning and coordination, natural resources management, vulnerability, resilience, and adaptation of African communities to climate change, as well as gender and development.
