Africa–Europe CoRE on the Politics of Sustainable Development meets at Future Africa to Strengthen Research Collaboration and Joint PhD Programme

Members of the Africa–Europe Cluster of Research Excellence (CoRE) on the Politics of Sustainable Development recently met at Future Africa, University of Pretoria, on 19 – 20 February to advance strategic planning for research collaboration and strengthen the joint PhD programme.

Discussions focused on aligning activities under the network’s research pillars, identifying funding opportunities, and expanding doctoral training. Several collaborative initiatives were confirmed, including new joint academic papers and a coordinated blog series.

The Collaborative PhD Programme, hosted at the Centre for Sustainable Development at Addis Ababa University, currently supports 24 PhD candidates across two cohorts. The programme advances interdisciplinary research aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals and the African Union’s Agenda 2063, with an emphasis on governance and the science–policy–practice interface.

The meeting reaffirmed the partners’ commitment to strengthening South–South collaboration and advancing the CoRE’s long-term sustainability and impact.

The CoRE on the Politics of Sustainable Development is co-led by Future Africa, University of Pretoria, and the University of Oslo.
