About the Lecture
The concept of sustainability has become a defining mantra of our time, shaping global discourse, influencing human behaviour, guiding philanthropic actions, and serving as a soft approach to addressing hard realities. This is largely due to sustainability drawing its strength from science, while its ideological underpinnings often remain unnoticed. In this lecture, Professor Ramutsindela will explore how science informs understandings of sustainability, how the ideology of sustainability is reinforced by the belief that there is nothing ideological about sustainability as a concept and practice, and highlight the implications of the intersection of sustainability and ideology for sustainability transformations in Africa.
