UNU Hub on Resilient Environment, Agriculture, Climate and Health for Africa

About Us

The UNU Hub on Resilient Environment, Agriculture, Climate and Health for Africa (REACH-AFRICA) is the first United Nations University (UNU) Hub in Africa and the Global South, officially launched on 23 July 2025 at Future Africa at the University of Pretoria (UP) in South Africa.

Established in partnership with the UNU Institute for Water, Environment and Health (UNU-INWEH), the UNU Hub on REACH – AFRICA aims to advance scientific understanding, develop innovative solutions, and train the skilled workforce needed to address Africa’s interconnected water, food, agricultural, environmental, climate, health, and sustainability challenges.

The UNU Hub on REACH-AFRICA is hosted by Future Africa, the University of Pretoria’s (UP) pan-African platform for collaborative research. Through Future Africa and the broader UP infrastructure, the UNU Hub is strategically located to facilities that support research, training, policy engagement, and multi-stakeholder collaboration across Africa.

Mission

The UNU Hub on REACH-AFRICA’s mission is to develop and apply science-based solutions that improve resilience in African environments, food systems, and public health systems.
